My wife and I make a good living providing interesting information and content on the internet (in both English and Spanish in her case). I have discussed that in a couple newsletters already, though, and the ways we do it have become commonplace. In this issue, I'll take a look at the more unusual ways.
You may recall the news story a couple years back about the young man who wanted to finance his college expenses by selling off linked "pixels" on his website. He called it the "Million Dollar Homepage," and I think he actually sold a million pixels for a dollar each. Buyers could do what they wanted with the space they bought, linking it to there sites or wherever. Of course, a single pixel would have been lost in the collage of images and ads, so generally they were sold by tens and hundreds at a time.
He promised to keep the links there forever, or for the life of the site. Since it costs as little as $8 per year for a domain name, and $60 annually for hosting, this is an easy promise to keep. Many others tried to copy his success, with mixed results. Things that were tried or could be tried include; buy a symbol (and link it to whatever you want), buy a word, buy a picture, and more.
You could get pretty creative with this, but it depends on your getting publicity to generate traffic, or at least on convincing buyers that you will be able to do that. How about "buy your favorite celebrity," and link them to your website, or "buy a photo of a product?" In the case of the latter, you might auction off links from images of popular high-dollar items, like the photo of a car or computer.
I hesitate to mention this one, but it is true that several women used to make a living selling their used underwear (and that of their friends) to fetishists online. Not sure where they do it now, because Ebay banned them. This does get you thinking about the strange things which can be sold online, though. Maybe some hair stylist to the stars can make money selling celebrity hair clippings.
As mentioned in another issue of the newsletter, we know a man who sells paddle boats and parts online. A friend used to make decent money selling laser pointers and "glow-pens" (whatever those are). They were faddish items that don't sell well now, but at least they were only side-lines to his business selling laminating machines on the internet.
Here is a short excerpt from Chapter 14 of my ebook, "You Aren't Supposed To Know - A Book Of Secrets:"
To make money online with no cost at all (you can even do this from a computer at your local library, try using a free blog. Blogger.com, for example, lets you set up free blogs (short for ""web logs"). Write about a topic that you have an interest in, and find some affiliate products to promote. You can promote the blog in the same way you do a website (articles, reciprocal links, etc.).
This is a zero-investment business. One blogger I read about had built his numerous blogs up to an income of $10,000 per month. From my experience, I can tell you that you should be happy if you are making any money at all in the first few months, but it if you are diligent you should be making some regular income eventually, and it comes in day and night.
The only downside I see is that you are not paying for the blog. This is a plus for those who need to start on a low budget, but free services are more likely to close your account if they feel like it for some reason someday. Blogger.com (and others) have been around for years, but I feel that a company which is being paid is less likely to cause you any trouble. They want to keep their customers happy.

If you are good at editing, or at writing articles, or anything else that internet business people need done, you can make a living providing these services online. If my wife didn't handle the submitting of my articles to directories, I would be paying someone else to do it. People pay to have research done for their ebooks as well. The possibilities are varied and many.
You can advertise your services on your own website. Another way to generate business is to go to those sites like www.elance.com, where people advertise their needs and you can send them a quote for a project. We currently pay someone to write short articles that promote our websites.
Creating your own ebooks is a topic of its own, and is a fun, creative way to make money online. I'll have more on this in an upcoming newsletter.
